Pasture Aerator
The Conservation District has purchased a
pasture aerator to help producers loosen compacted soils. Use of the
aerator should improve water and air infiltration and allow
fertilizers and herbicides to better penetrate the soil. It is useful
on both alfalfa and pasture and ground disturbance is minimal compared
to plowing or disking, leaving the surface cover intact and reducing
erosion. When a cooperator rents the aerator, simple infiltration
tests will be done by the district on the field to document the
changes in water penetration. For more information, contact Larry
Miller at 423-6692. |
